Makeup Madness: NYX Round Lipsticks - My Favorite Brights

To be honest, I haven't been wearing makeup much lately. I've been finding myself going barefaced a lot, even when I'm actually going somewhere nice. That's weird because my skin is better now but still isn't at its best, but for some reason I've been loving the fresh-faced look and don't feel like piling gunk on my face.

The one thing I still can't live without though is lipstick. Most days, I skip the eye makeup and blush but I do swipe on some color on my lips before stepping out. What can I say? It will always be my favorite beauty product!

I've been re-evaluating my stash lately because it's time to throw out expired tubes and those that have melted. I just realized that I need to get new tubes of my favorite bright NYX Round Lipsticks. I first tried them when I was a beauty/fashion editor and NYX sent me tubes for review. I have since repurchased the colors a bunch of times.

I love them, but unfortunately, they have the tendency to melt in extremely hot weather, which is almost always what we have here in this tropical country. I have three favorites -- Pink Lyric, Haute Melon, and Peach Bellini. All except Pink Lyric have melted. I should have known better and stored them in a cooler area, but the good thing about NYX Round Lipsticks is that they're super light on the pocket and I can easily get new ones. For now, here's my review and swatches of these pretty brights.

NYX Round Lipsticks

These lipsticks are vibrant and bold, but they don't look too shocking on the lips because of their consistency. They're not matte -- they're creamy, and they have moisturizing properties so they feel really comfortable on the lips. However, the colors don't stick to the lips easily since they have a tendency to glide on and off. They are also a bit unforgiving and can emphasize all the nooks and crannies of your lips. Just use a lip scrub and a lip balm before putting them on.

Pink Lyric, Peach Bellini, and Haute Melon

The colors are what made me love these lipsticks. The three are different in finish and texture, but they're all highly pigmented. They look juicy and perfect for summer. Now that the weather's starting to get a bit chilly, they take me back to sunny days. Plus, they're unique.

Haute Melon is an orange shade, which is why I love it so much. It looks pale on camera though and I don't think I got the best swatch of it because my lips were awful and wouldn't cooperate the day I took pics. It looks way better in person. It's bright, and even looks almost neon at times. It has a sheer quality to it since it's a cream, but it makes lips look luscious. It's also quite versatile and I can wear it with summer dresses but it also goes well with dark, edgy outfits.

Pink Lyric was a surprise because I didn't expect it to be such an attention-grabbing color. It's a party on your lips! It almost looks neon purple sometimes, depending on the lighting, because it's a blue-toned pink. It's thicker and is the one that looks the most matte of the three with its satin finish. It's loud and unapologetic. I love it.

Peach Bellini is the most conservative of the bunch. It's a nice coral color but its glittery pearl look keeps it from looking ordinary. It feels a little grainy on the lips because of the glittery pearls but it's not uncomfortable. It's a pretty peach, perfect for pearls and heels and dainty dresses or white frocks with gold jewelry.

These make great, everyday lipsticks. They won't break the bank, and they're accessible, especially since NYX is officially in the Philippines now. I use these lipsticks when I want a break from pink and red lip color. They're a lot of fun.

  1. Glad they're in SM now. Mas madali na mag try ng swatches compared to buying online. I still have my Pink Lyric and lip cream but paubos na. Sayang yung nag melt sayo. :-( I think I'm getting the Stay Matte but Not Flat powder (like the one you gave me before) to alternate with the Studio Fix when I fix my skin probs. :-)

    1. Yeah I just haven't been to SM! The last time I was at Megamall, SM didn't have NYX yet and I noticed that Wet 'n Wild was missing. Hmmm. :/

I still use Pink Lyric, but rarely because I have a lot of lipsticks on rotation haha. I need replacements for the melted ones.

You know what I miss that foundation! It's a good alternative to MAC. It's light and perfect for days when you don't want much coverage.

Hope your skin probs go away soon! Give me an update when you find the product culprit.
